Waterford was founded in 2016 by Mark Reynier, a former CEO in Bruichladdich Distillery, who was born in a winery family. When he resigned from the job in Bruichladdich and came to Ireland, he had only one goal, which was finding Terroir, an element that was uniquely found in wine. Waterford established contracts with 90 farms and grow 12 species of barley, and even hired a PhD in Biology to investigate the relationship between barley and soil. This made Waterford to be the first six distilleries in Ireland in making organic whisky. After 4 years of research, Waterford had introduced the first batch of Single Farm Origin whisky in 2020. It was a blast amongst the whisky industry and making Waterford one of the most renowned young distilleries.??
Bannow Island is located in the Southern Ireland, what makes it different from all of the other farms in Waterford is the gentle sea breeze that constantly flow through the barley on Bannow Isalnd, giving them natural maritime flavor.
