Ao Yun 2013 is the inaugural vintage of this top-tier Chinese wine from Shangri-La, Yunnan. Limited to only 24,000 bottles worldwide, it is produced by the LVMH Group and is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.
Grape Varieties: A blend of approximately 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc.
Terroir: Originating from four Tibetan villages (Adong, Xidang, Sinong, and Jushui) at an altitude of 2,200 to 2,600 meters at the foot of Meili Snow Mountain in Deqin County, Yunnan Province. The high altitude, strong ultraviolet radiation, and significant diurnal temperature variations contribute to its unique acidity and ripe tannins.
Flavor profile: Aromas of wild berries, blackcurrant, and blackberry, accompanied by delicate spice and minerality. Medium-bodied with fine tannins, possessing excellent aging potential.
Aging Process: The first vintage was completed in a temporary, challenging cellar, employing a special blending aging process, including 9 months of aging in earthenware jars (brick wines), followed by 3 months of aging in 100% new oak barrels. The entire process involves 100% hand-harvesting and destemming.
