Flavor Profile
Unlike the intense, medicinally-tinged peaty style of Islay, Scotland, this early creation by Ichiro Akuto, founder of the Chichibu distillery, showcases the precision and delicate balance unique to Japanese craftsmanship:
- Aroma: Upon opening, a distinct smoky and ash note emerges, followed by aromas of toasted bread, caramelized vanilla, rich malty sweetness, and subtle hints of vegetal and fruity notes.
- Palmistry: Full-bodied and complex. The palate is marked by a pronounced peaty and smoky ash character, but the mid-palate reveals a very robust and full-bodied malt and barley sugar-like sweetness, perfectly balancing the peaty spiciness.
- Finish: A long finish with warm, dry campfire ash notes and a touch of fruity sweetness.
