The 2016 Le Petit Cheval is a blend of 62% Merlot and38% Cabernet Franc from three parcels, representing 7% of the totalproduction. Matured in 60% new oak, it has an attractive bouquetwith raspberry preserve, pressed flowers and a touch of orangerind. The palate is medium-bodied with fine delineation and poise,a fine prickle of acidity, maybe a tad tight having just beenwrenched from barrel but with fine salinity on the finish. Beadvised to give this three or four years in bottle just to smoothout that slight rigidity on the finish.
Aromas: A garnet-purple color with beautiful aromas of red rose, black tea, cigar, mint, and black cherry. A hint of earthiness and soft plum flavors slowly unfold on the palate, creating a vibrant, pure, and smooth texture. It boasts a very long finish with fine tannins, culminating in a complex and profound mineral finish—quite beautiful.
