Loom's first creation stays true to its name, umami.
Umami – the fifth taste – is universal and hints to deliciousness. It's the pleasant taste of savouriness – complete, complex, and very satisfying.
Similarly, Loom Spirits Umami is a rich, well-rounded, and elegant gin. It's smooth with flavours that marry without overpowering one another – an exceptional drop that is quite unlike anything else.
Loom Spirits Umami is the fusion of modern distilling techniques and traditional Asian spirits. While developing our first product, we challenged ourselves to craft a gin infused with the aromas and flavours of aged Chinese spirits like Moutai and Baijiu, whose production involves a lengthy ageing process. To combat this, we had to innovate and experiment.
We make this gin using a unique process while staying true to its gin base. Red Sorghum is a traditional ingredients in this Asian-inspired gin. Other botanicals include Sichuan pepper, black cardamom, jasmine, aged citrus peel (chenpi), and Chinese olives.
Tastes of saltiness like soy and olives in the mid-palate is then smoothed out by a sweetness that resembles honey and over-ripe fruits. It has a long finish and a pleasantly sweet and savoury aftertaste.
This balanced gin is impressive to drink neat or as the hero ingredient in mixed drinks and cocktails.
